Post Covid situations are not favourable for everyone. With the deteriorating economy, more than 60% of households were affected, out of which 40% are still under significant financial stress. To release this pressure and improve living standards for these households, the state and central government have announced multiple schemes for low-income groups and people.
On 1st December 2020, the Assam government also announced a new scheme to facilitate financial help for low and medium income groups- Assam Orunodoi Scheme.
The state government launched it to provide a medicinal and nutritional assessment to more than 17 lakh eligible families in the state. It will further alleviate the financial crisis, ensuring the supply of all the necessities, including vegetables, groceries, fruits and medicines.

What is Orunodoi Assam Scheme?
To prevent the coronavirus outbreak, the Prime Minister of India announced a lockdown over the country in 2020. It was, therefore, devastating news for low and medium income groups and especially daily wage workers. Those who survive on their daily incomes as they had no income source and backup left.
To alleviate the financial stress in poor households, Mr Himata Biswa Sarma, the Health Minister of Assam, announced Assam Orunodoi Scheme.
It aimed to help around 17 lakh families whose income is less than Rs. 2,00,000/- per annum. The total budget for this scheme was Rs. 2800 crore. It says that all the eligible households will get Rs. 830 per month for their daily medicinal and nutritional needs. It will also ensure the upliftment or growth of people below the poverty line.

What Is the Main Objective Behind The Assam Orunodoi Scheme?
Announced on 1st December 2020, this scheme was launched to help poor households live a basic lifestyle by accomplishing all the daily necessities, including food and medicines. Built to support around 17 lakhs beneficiaries, this scheme currently serves more than 22 lakhs of households, facilitating their access to daily survival needs.
Beneficiaries who have registered for the benefits will also get the bonus of an extra Rs. 250/- from October. Therefore, economically weaker and disadvantaged families are announced to help them pay their monthly electricity expenses.

Who is Eligible for Assam Orunodoi Scheme?
This scheme is made available for the females of poor household families to empower them and improve their wealth status in the family.
- Families with unmarried girls,
- Families with differently-abled females,
- Families with divorcee member or widow,
- Families who still do not have free rice access through ration cards,
- Families who own two- and three-wheelers with the assistance of self-help groups can get the benefits.
Money from the scheme will be transferred to their bank accounts within two months of the application date. Separated women or all those living alone along with disabled women will get an extra benefit and preference from the scheme.

Which Families are not eligible for the Assam Orunodoi Scheme?
- Families who own more than 15 bighas of land, refrigerator, four-wheelers, tractor and whose income is more than Rs. 2 lakhs per annum,
- If any of the family members has a government job or working under PSU,
- Families who own air conditioners and washing machines,
- Families with no female members,
- If the members are part of a legislative or parliament assembly,
- Engineers,
- Doctors,
- Chartered Accountants,
- Income Tax Payers,
- Lawyers,
- Architects.
What are the Benefits of the Scheme?
Introduced by the Finance Department of Assam, the government transfers around Rs. 830/- per month to households whose annual income totals around or less than Rs. 2,00,000/- per annum. Benefits of the scheme include-
- Rs. 10,000/- financial yearly help by the government,
- directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account to eliminate any scam or fraud,
- The extra provisional amount for sanitary pads for the women registered under the scheme.

What are all Documents Required to Submit the Application Form?
- Family Income Certificate: The scheme is for candidates whose family income is lower than 2 lakh per annum. Therefore, they need to submit the family income certificate as proof.
- Assam Domicile: The beneficiary for the scheme must be Assam’s permanent resident.
- ID Proof for the Candidates: Candidates must also submit one ID Proof like an Aadhar card or any other government-approved identification.
- Address Proof: Interest candidates must also keep one address proof handy for the submission.
- Below Poverty Line (BPL) card must also be submitted with the form.
What is the Selection Procedure for the Assam Orunodoi Scheme?
- Interested households must fill out the form and submit it to the gram panchayat or urban local bodies.
- Heads assigned to the task will finalise the list for their district according to the given guidelines.
- They will prepare the checklist for each form under ineligibility and eligibility conditions.
- This checklist will further be attached with Annexure A.
- After the form submissions, the district level committee will further approve the list, and they need to fill in the bank details for the procedure ahead.
- The approved final list will further be uploaded to the online website.

You will receive the designated amount within two months if you have filled out the form and submitted it to the gram panchayat. If you still haven’t received any notification for the same, you can quickly check your online beneficiary status from the official government website for the scheme.
