Magenta Line Delhi Metro: Everything You Should Know

The Magenta line, also called Line 8, is built as a crescent through the southern parts of the capital Delhi. As an alternative route, the Magenta line connects Noida with western Noida through South Delhi.

The Magenta line metro route was planned by DMRC(Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) between Noida’s Botanical Garden and Janakpuri in Delhi.

All these stations are already connected via the Blue line of the Delhi Metro. The Magenta line Delhi route replaced this blue line and provided a quicker way to reach Delhi NCR without passing through Central Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, and Mandi House.

The Magenta line route was not fully operational till today’s date. Delhi will have a much better connection with the western parts of Delhi, which have been untouched till now.

The investigation geotechnical and geophysical started in April 2022 for the DC05 package of 28.92km from Janakpuri to RK Ashram via the Magenta line metro route, Delhi. This package was awarded to Afcons Infrastructure as a contract of RS. 2481.50.

Magenta Line route stations

The starting point of the magenta line is from the Botanical Garden in Noida, and its ending point is at Janakpuri in West Delhi. There are a total of 25 metro stations on the whole way. Ten of them are elevated ones, and the other ones are underground. The total length of the magenta line route is 38 km. According to the Delhi Metro Phase 5, an extension of this route towards RK Ashram would take place in 2023–2024. That will cause an interchange for the blue line.

PWD plans to build transport hubs at two Delhi metro stations:

The public works department (PWD) has decided to develop a Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) hub at the stations of the Magenta line route between IIT and Panchsheel Park on the route, along with providing a facility of dedicated parking spaces for vehicles.

The DMRC and the PWD are also planning to make the area wayfarer and differently abled-bodied friendly by providing facilities like walkways and setting up reasonable seating arrangements.
